How To Flower Girl Dress

Do Flower Girl Dresses usually match the bride's dress?

I just bought my wedding dress and have started looking at flower girl dresses, and I know that a lot of times there are "mini" versions of the wedding gown available for the Flower Girls, but I don't think this is the case with my dress. I was wondering if the Flower Girl dresses usually match the bride, or only occasionally? Do I need to choose any specific style for the FLOWER GIRL dresses (we have 3) based on what my gown looks like?

No. the flower girl dresses can be completely different - just be aware of the different styles between flower girls, bridesmaids and your gown. If you have a theme, choose the dresses accordingly. Our collection is large so you when you are ready you can - Shop Flower Girl Dresses

Should the Flower girls all wear the same color dress as the bridesmaid or can they wear a white dress with color accent?

Long ago, flower girls wore white as if they were "little brides." There are Brides as well as mothers who have their flower girls wear little white dresses with lots of beaded appliques so that their dress resembles the bride's gown.

Actually either way is fine. Most brides prefer to see flower girls in white. Flower girls look precious in all white, therefore an all white dress is perfect, add a splash of color will make it a bit more fun! Flower Girls can wear a white dress with a bright, sky blue (or any color) sash around her waist, to tie her in with the rest of the bridal party colors. Go for it! I am sure she'll be adorable!

There are no set rules for your Try to select the color and the style most compliments them. You want to look your best on your wedding day, and you also want your wedding party to look their best especially the flower girl who is walking right before you. They will continue to love you for it. You can also discuss this with them to get some ideas as to what they might like. If your Flower Girls are rather plump, you don't want to offer them skin tight design with pastel color clothes, try our White Flower Girl Dress it fits comfortable and looks great!

How many flower girls can I have and what is the max age?

As many as you want! After all, it's your wedding! Suggestion: Have them walk in pairs- one older child alongside one that is younger. The younger one will follow the example of the older one.

10 and 11 may be a little too old but you can have them as your Jr bridesmaids or Ushers(boys). The one year old might be a little young to want to walk down. But still keep her as a flower girl. Is it your sister's child or brother's? Is either one of the parents in the wedding. If so have them hold her. The 3and 5 year old will be really cute.

I'm not so sure the 10 and 11 year olds would be alright with being called "flower girls". Perhaps it would be more appropriate to call them Junior Bridesmaids and dress them in the same color as your flower girls or even the bridesmaids. However, have them walk down the aisle with the younger flower girls. I think they would be ecstatic to call themselves bridesmaids.

This is your wedding, and you can do what you want. There's no set rules. On this happy day, you should be relaxed and not having to worry about anything. Every choice you make you be centered around what will make your day go smoothly. Be sure to think things through so that you day is not complicated.

  • Ages 3 and 5: Flower girls, have them each hold one side of the basket and use the other hand to throw flowers.
  • Ages 10 and 11: Junior Bridesmaids, make them feel like big girls.

You can really have as many flower girls as you want. It's your wedding, after all. But I think the 10 and 11 year old girls might be too old. They're adolescents now, and will probably feel kind silly with the little 5-and-under girls. Have you heard of junior bridesmaids? They're pretty much like regular bridesmaids, only younger and with less responsibilities. You can give them little things to do during the wedding day to help you out, like deliver messages or watch the little flower girls. Then they'd walk down the aisle, probably after the flower girls and ring bearer. That way, they can feel more adult and still be a part of your wedding.

Honestly, you can have as many flower girls as you want...it is so sweet to see a whole "gaggle" of little girls walking down the aisle. Also, if one the younger girls isn't being too cooperative on your wedding day, you have other ones all set to go - no problem. Maybe the 3 & 5 year olds could be the main flower girls & your 10 yrs old sister could be sort of in charge of the younger ones, and lead them down the aisle. Perhaps the 1 year old is too small. Maybe she can be carried by her mother down the aisle or pulled in a little decorated wagon. You can also give your 11 yrs. old cousin a separate job like handing out the programs as people come into the ceremony. Definitely have them all involved...you have lots of different options! Don't worry about wedding "rules", planning is key, rules are more like guidelines, and ultimately you can do things how you want. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Does the Ring Bearer walk in front of the Flower Girls?

That Depends. If ring bearer is old enough, the ring bearer's should walk before the flower girl. If ring bearer is young, they can both walk together, side by side. Keep in mind that the flower girl spreads the flower pedals for the bride. Not for anyone else. So, that the flower girl is at the end of the bridal party procession right before the bride.

I'm having a Catholic wedding. My bridesmaids will be on steps. Where do the flower girls and ring bears go?

Position the Flower Girls right behind the Maid of Honor and the Best Man, note the Flower Girls should really be in front of them because of the order of entrance; however, they scoot right behind them because the Maid of Honor and the Best Man will be signing papers as witnesses and they are the second to last to enter right before you an whom may be walking you down

  • Perspective from the entrance
  • Groom and minister///Best Man (if not escorting Maid of Honor)
  • Mother of Bride escorted by Best Man
  • Parents of the Groom
  • any Junior Bridesmaids and Grooms men
  • Bridesmaids an grooms men
  • Maid of Honor and Best Nan

Flower Girl and Ring Bearer (note the dropping of flowers and brides carrying flowers was due to back in the 1500s brides only showered one time a year normally in may most weddings were in June an used flowers to help make them smell nicer and in hopes the flower girl will give one last refreshing smell for the bride an the bride only!!!)
